Nathaniel Hudson received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky in 2022. He received the B.S. degree (with an Hons. distinction) in computer science from Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights, KY, USA, in 2017. He currently serves as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago with a joint appointment at Argonne National Laboratory. His research expertise is focused on edge intelligence, edge computing, and smart city applications in complex systems.

Abstract

Deploying and training deep learning models usually requires large-scale resources to transform large amounts of data into meaningful knowledge. Naturally, data are generated in a decentralized manner. With the advents of the Internet-of-Things and Edge Computing, it is crucial to consider how to offload the task of deep learning to where data are generated at the network edge. This idea of deploying and training deep learning models at the network is now being referred to as Edge Intelligence (EI). My research is focused on novel solutions related to EI. More specifically, these can be improving QoS of edge-hosted AI models, resource management of resource-constrained devices, data privacy, and communication cost reductions.
